A Impetvs Basing Weekend

Now days and at my age having a social life outside the family is virtually non-exsitant however, it  has left me with a few spare weekends with couple of like minded chaps rolling few dice across a table and pushing a few figures around the table, eating too much cake and coffee......with the odd beer or wine. Some say that is perfect and to be honest I do not mind it either. Lately my eyesight is starting to blur and I have been resisting going to the optometrist so I have turned to basing to fill the void. The lads up on the this post I have based for a good friend, Jeff Smith, who is building a Basic Impetvs Pyrrhic Army. These fine fellows represent the first half. In a container in my office I have four units of pike, two hoplite units and some celts. All the figures today have been painted by our local champion painter - Leroy Simpson, who once again has done a fantastic job. Jeff Army is a mix of 1st Corps, Aventine, Crusader and Warlord Games Miniatures.

If your eyesight is starting to blur get a pair of cheap reading glasses. It made a huge difference to me as I couldn't get motivated enough before to get enough painting or reading done

A nice job on the basing. The elephant is model is beautiful, I don’t know why I am surprised it is so huge, but I am.

Ominous looking Nelly. Yes the eyesight is a birthday curse and I'm not sure I've gotten used to it even after near ten years. I take it this is long-sightedness. You'll appreciate the difference. By the way, you need proper prescriptions but I supplement my collection is basic magnifiers.

Ha yesthecurseof old age and something that will not go away. I do have a magnifying glass/light which my wonderful wife purchased for me many years ago...it is just bloody hard to get use too.

All the best

I really like your basing style. Makes a wonderful showpiece for the figures which as you say are beautifully painted.

I gave up resisting on the eyes years ago - got reading glasses - which still work 10 years later and an Optivisor for painting. It took a few weeks to really get used to it but then it is great. Only problem - especially up north- is when it gets over 30 in Sydney the perspiration from forehead falls into the lenses :)

Well Cousin Nate, Basing IS something you have always done very well and these are no exception.
Would you consider doing a tutorial on your style and products when time ever becomes available?

Nice figures and the basing well done.

Late 50’s here, I too have a magnifying glass with built in light on a swing arm and never could get used to the bugger. The light is great and I still use the light but not magnifying glass. Kept bumping into it with paint brush. I then got a visor, which worked, but now a days use a 2X reading glasses bought from drugstore. Still I can only paint for so long before my eyes get tired and I start to blur out.

Sounds like you might have something else going on if so I wish you well.

Cheers
Kevin

Leroy's painting + your basing = splendid results! Love this army and your Impetus basing. I so wish Impetus had caught on here.

Thanks Monty,

We only really play the Basic version which has worked very well for our club games
