Perry Miniatures ACW Plastics

I have just finished painting a regiment of Union troops for Regimental Fire & Fury and must say that it was enjoyable. The figures are mainly from Perry Miniatures plastic box set with a few Perry metal command mixed in to add a little more variety of poses for the unit. Since starting RFF I have realised that you need a great many figures to re-create the battles of the period and that meant a lot more painting. So after much discussion with the other lads of the club we decided to only base three figures per 40x40mm base, to save on the painting. Thus with one box of Perry plastics and box metal command pack you will be able to create two units of seven bases, one in the march attack pose and the other as a firing line.

An in order to ensure the boys are steady a good sergeant is required - metal

Looking good mate :)

Must be the day for it as I'm 1/2 way through basing a new regiment of Rebs.

Good Man Dave, I'm about to start on some casuality markers and then another regiment, which will hopefully be finished before out next game.

Hi Vinnie,

First off the unit looks very nice!

I've been struggling with ACW basing for quite some time and so far I'm not happy. I've done 2 figures per base, but it was to fiddly trying to move them and I've now been doing 4 to a base, but the figure count is to high like you said. I'm thinking of doing 3 to a base on a 60mm x 25mm frontage. I'll have to some dreaded re-basing, but in the end I'll likely be more happy.

Ooops just looked at the figure count again for most the RF&F scenario's
and maybe I might just stay with the fiddly 2 per base! I'm hopeless!

Anyhow I'm really enjoying your ACW posting! Wonderful stuff!

Hi Vinnie,

Have you tried individual basing with magnetic basing? I use 20 mm square bases which pemits us to use three figures on a 60mm wide base. You can then use the same figures for skirmish basing such as Brother Against Brother. The bases can be individually flocked and painted, too!

Thanks for the great comments guys. There does seem to be a little drama at painting so many figures for RRF but as you have suggested either two figures on a smaller base or three figures on the larger base would be fine. Mind are based inorder, hopefully, to play a number of different rule set which have the 40x40 base size...well that was the plan.
